Melaka has been raining over a week or two, but today the sky is blue and bright when I alifted from the driver seat and stood below a shady tree on Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho 1, in Melaka.


I have been following the commemorative prayers for a number of years, and began to film the event initially with a Samsung S5. Today, I am filming the 'Semagam' with a 4K HD Sony VideoCam and used the Filmora Wondershare application to produce a 1080p video on Desktop or if you prefer, watch it with your handphone on 720p50 HD.





Prominently Punjabis in Melaka are chiefly Sikhs and Gujaratis and they are from Northern states of India. In fact, I can still remember three of my friend, Sewak Singh, Mohan Singh and Teja Singh.


Punjab is a large territory in the northwest part of the Indian subcontinent, and it is known as the land of the five rivers.


This year is the 46th anniversary. Read the 44th HERE. I was told that YB Gobind Singh Deo has graced the commemorative prayers yesterday.

GE 14 marked the collapse of MCA and the big question now everyone is thinking could be, “ Is it worthwhile for MCA to continue to transform, stabilize and strengthen and regain its glory of its formation in 1949 and early years ? ”


I have a hair-cut just now, with the second generation barber at the old ‘pondok’ [ booth ] which is still standing since 1969. I asked  my barber and his customer, “ Do you think MCA can be rebuild ? ” They shared a same answer.“ Sepuluh tahun lagi, belum tentu boleh ! ”

The founder of MCA, Tun Sir Tan Cheng Lock not only seeks to represent the Malaysian Chinese ethnicity, but also had labored for the betterment of the lives of Malaysians and co-founded a coalition body then in governmental authority. A Malaya’s most active constitutional reformer, Tun Sir Tan Cheng Lock used his wealth for public affairs and devoted 40 years of his time for the betterment of the Chinese community.


Tun Sir Tan Cheng Lock and his son, Tan Siew Sin wanted to protect the interests of the Malayan Chinese, and with his dream to unify Malaya, they formed the Overseas Chinese Association in 1943.


Tun Sir Tan Cheng Lock believed a multi-racial party has potential to Malaya and he came out to support the Independence Malaya Party set up by Dato Onn Jaafar.


He was the first Finance Minister for Malaysia, and the founding president for MCA who is an old boy of Malacca High School.


Also an old boy of Malacca High School, Tun Tan Siew Sin was the second Finance Minister for Malaysia and the third president of MCA.

YB Dr. Maszlee Malik's hope for a better Malaysia

Dr. Maszlee Malik hope that students pursuing their education in Institution of Higher Learning could shape the future of Malaysia. " Together, they become a rippling force to propel how Malaysia would move forward ", he said.


The Education Minister also hope that these students are agents of change for Malaysia and they can form a harmonious, competitive and progressive nation.


He believed the students are able to enrich oneself with knowledge, attain good moral and has humane instinct. With these qualities, they could be happy, have joy and extend mutual respect to others not only in places of higher learning but also outside the campus.

Sin See Tai fit this place. 18 Jalan Jawa, Melaka is a-must check-in place the next time you go to Melaka. I was there enjoying the new era food recipes, for the second time as you can see here :




A ' Mr. DIY ' or ' Daiso ' of the yesteryear, this old village is named Kampung Jawa and Sin See Tai has a reason to become a neighbourhood recently. [ The Malay Language for the word, Village is Kampung ] What they couldn't get from shop, they checked out in Kampung Jawa.

On the 3rd June 2017, Sin See Tai showed the Avocado Bacon Toast with homemade pickles and flovoured eggs and the following month, guests have been flowing in since 9th July.

Peringgit Mosque

The hill got its name as Peringgit Hill, when the Portuguese Government (1511-1641) build a guard-post on top of the hill to survey the movements and threats from the people of Naning, a small independence state north of Melaka. Since then, it was called Peringgit Hill and later known as Peringgit by the locals (referring to the Portuguese Colonial)


The old Peringgit Mosque built in the year 1141 Hijrah (1726AD) was destroyed and the present mosque was built in 1293 Hijrah (1868AD). Aestheticaly a traditoanl Melaka Mosque, it is square in shape, where its main foundation and walls are constructed from laterite blocks and Dutch bricks and the floor is furnished with terracotta arrangements. The attic, truss, window panels and door are made from timber wood. A three tiers roof are the main characteristics of the mosques in Melaka where it is roofed with Chinese tiles at the verandah and Dutch tiles at the middle and main roof. The dome or its summit is finished with specially carved coral stones as could be seen.


In 1978/1979 the back portion of the mosque was extended by the State Government with concrete structure thus resulting in the elimination of the main stairs, well, ablution pond, terracotta arrangements and the Dutch bricks at the front compound area. The Chinese and the Dutch roofing and the terracotta floor at the verandah were replaced with modern tiles. Additional building was erected on the right wing of the mosque which was utilized as religious classes for the local children.


Following the completion of the state mosque in 1988, the Peringgit mosque was relief from holding the Friday prayer because of its locaton withing the vicinity and its 'Kariah' was transferred  under the jurisdiction of the state mosque.


The mosque continue to serve the people for daily prayers.


When the timber works were destroyed by termites and rain water, making it unsafe, the Museum and Antiquity Department in 2002 took the responsibilities to make the conservation works to restore the original looks of the Peringgit Mosque.

Masjid Peringgit

Peringgit mendapat namanya apabila Pemerintah Portugis di Melaka (1511 - 1641) membina pos kawalan dipuncak bukit itu. Ianya bertujuan mengawal pergerakan serangan orang-orang Naning, daerah kecil yang merdeka. Lantas bukit ini disebut sebagai Bukit Peringgit dan kemudiannya disebut Peringgit kekal hingga hari ini. (Peringgi adalah gelaran orang-orang Melaka terhadap orang Portugis)


Masjid asal Peringgit yang dibina pada tahun 1141 Hijrah bersamaan 1726 Masihi telah musnah. Masjid itu pula telah dibina pada tahun 1293 Hijrah bersamaan 1868 Masihi. Ianya adalah masjid tradisional Negeri Melaka. Berbentuk empat persegi, bahan binaan terdiri daripada batu laterite dan batu bata era Belanda sebagai asas dan dinding, lantai masjid diperbuat daripada susunan terracotta. Loteng, perabung, kekisi tingkap dan pintu dibuat dari kayu. Tiga lapisan bumbung adalah ciri utama masjid di Melaka. Gentingnya terdiri daripada genting China pada bahagian verandah dan genting Belanda pada bumbung tengah dan bumbung utama. Bahagian kubah/punchk dibuat dari batu karang berukir seperti yang dapat dilihat
.

Pada tahun 1978/1979 kerajaan Negeri Melaka telah menambah besar bahagian belakang masjid itu dengan binaan konkrit yang melenyapkan tangga utama, perigi, kolah, susunan terracota dan batu bata era Belanda di bahagian halaman. Genting China dan genting Belanda ditukar kepada genting simen dan lantai terracotta di verandah ditukar kepada jubin moden. Di bahagian sisi sebelah kanan telah dibina binaan tambahan yang digunakan sebagai kelas Fardu Ain untuk kanak-kanak setempat.


Apabila Masjid Negeri siap dibina pada tahun 1988, Masjid Peringgit tidak lagi digunakan untuk solat Jumaat kerana kedudukannya yang berhampiran dan kariah masjid berpindah ke Masjid Negeri. Masjid Peringgit digunakan oleh penduduk setempat untuk solat harian sahaja. Lama kelamaan banyak dari kerja kayunya yang roask disebabkan anai-anai dan air hujan sehinggakan ianya tidak lagi selamat untuk digunakan.


Pada tahun 2002, Jabatan Muzium dan Antikuiti telah melaksanakan kerja-kerja konservasi dengan mengembalikan bentuk asal Masjid Peringgit.

Jam Matahari ialah alat untuk menunjukkan waktu pada zaman dahulu dengan menggunakan bayang yang menimpa pada permukaan rata yang ditandakan dengan waktu dalam satu hari, selari dengan perubahan pada kedudukan cahaya matahari.

Namun Jam Matahari tidak dapat digunakan pada waktu malam dan telah tidak digunakan pada zaman moden.

His first time, my second time.

Coliseum Cafe is not only the oldest cafe in the country but it is a also a cafe I would introduce to my friends and family members.

My first visit to the cafe was sometime in the early 1980s when I was studying in Tunku Abdul Rahman College.

My son enjoyed his lunch today at Coliseum Cafe and likes this colonial cafe which was established in 1921.

Tun Khalil Yaakob : Artist - Portraits & Images

Introduction

The Tun Khalil Yaakob : Artist – Portraits & Images Solo Exhibition is for public viewing in conjunction with the re-opening of the Melaka Folks Art Gallery, a brainchild gallery of HRH Tun Datuk Seri Utama Dr. Mohd Khalil Yaakob, the Governor of Melaka upon complete restoration of the heritage building in the early 2018.

HRH Tun has in depth interest in the art of drawing and since then, more than 80 masterpieces are ready, some of them, now on display in this gallery. His Royal Highness duties has not limited the Governor’s talent in the art of drawing.

Since 2004, HRH Tun has contributed in many artistic drawing activities organized by governmental agencies, institute of higher learning, public galleries including schools art programmes. His in those mentioned sectors has not only provided encouragement but also served as a motivation for potential participants.

This exhibition is an appreciation to HRH Tun for his contribution and his dedication more than a decade ago toward Melaka’s visual art. This exhibition enriched the state government continuous efforts to promote the beauty and the heritage of Melaka to the world.



Pengenalan

Pameran Solo Tun Khalil Yaakob: Artist – Portraits & Images ini adalah bersempena dengan pembukaan semula Galeri Seni Rakyat Melaka yang telah diilhamkan oleh Tuan Yang Terutama Tun Datuk Seri Utama Dr. Mohd Khalil Yaakob, Gabenor Negeri Melaka selepas siap dibaik pulih bermula 2017 hingga 2018.

TYT Tun Datuk Seri Utama Dr. Mohd Khalil bin Yaakob pemimpin negeri yang mempunyai minat yang sangat mendalam terhadap bidang seni lukis. Sehingga kini TYT Tun telah menghasilkan lebih 80 buah catan dan lukisan. Sebahagiannya kini dipamerkan di Galeri Seni Rakyat Melaka dan ada yang turut dijadikan koleksi persendirian peminat seni. Tugas-tugas rasmi sebagai Gabenor Negeri Melaka juga tidak menghadkan bakat semulajadi beliau untuk terus berkarya.

Sejak tahun 2004 sehingga kini TYT Tun turut bersama-sama turun padang memeriahkan pelbagai program seni yang diadakan di peringkat jabatan kerajaan, institusi pengajian tinggi, galeri swasta mahupun sekolah di pelbagai lokasi. Kehadiran Tun di setiap lokasi penganjuran aktiviti memberikan semangat dan menjadi inspirasi kepada para peserta.

Penampilan khas karya-karya Tun Datuk Seri Utama Dr. Mohd Khalil Yaakob pada kali ini di Galeri Seni Rakyat Melaka adalah sebagai penghargaan atas penglibatan, sumbangan dan peranannya yang begitu besar sekali terhadap perkembangan dunia seni visual Melaka sejak lebih sedekad yang lalu. Pameran ini juga adalah sebagai satu usaha kerajaan negeri dalam menyemarakkan lagi dunia seni yang mewarnai Melaka sebagai sebuah negeri pelancongan dengan penglibatan pemimpin atasannya sendiri sebagai insan seni.

It's OK to be different

How can anybody with autism who does not understand musical scores and children with severe hearing impairments play music? But they really do!

The Persatuan Kanner Melaka welcomes you to Oriental Medical Centre on 10th June (Sunday), 2pm for the " Talk & Sing Along - It's Okay to be  Different" concert.

One of the performers on that day is an autistic singer Chia Loke Yen from Persatuan Kanner Melaka. He cannot read nor understand musical score, but plays music and sings beautifully. He holds a 7th grade Singing Performance Certificate. 

His mother Mdm Tsong and elder brother Kang Yen will be there. Mdm Tsong gave a brief story of Loke Yen's music journey while Kang Yen with support his brother with the guitar and backup singing.

In addition, six physically and mentally handicapped children from the Broken Wing Angels Orchestra in Yunlin, Taiwan, have worked hard for many years, using residual hearing, practiced vibrating against the violin and the floor to overcome obstacles with strong willpower, are  performing cellos, violin and keyboard with good musical skills.

These children have worked very hard in  order to obtain the Street Performer's License that enables them to perform overseas.   

They started with no musical foundations until they are able  to perform beautiful music on stage. No ordinary people can understand what they went through.

This time they have  come to Melaka  to perform with  Loke Yen .Hopefully through the performance, more people will  understand that although they are different from ordinary people, they can pursue their dreams and create beautiful moments in  their lives.

弹弹唱唱《不一样，没关系》音乐会

看不懂樂譜的自閉症患者，以及重度聽障的孩子們，如何彈奏音樂？但他們真的做到了！

　馬六甲肯納兒協會歡迎民眾于6月10日（週日）下午2時，到東方醫院出席“彈彈唱唱《不一樣，沒關係》”音樂會。

　當天演出的人士，其中一人是來自馬六甲肯納兒協會的自閉症歌手謝樂園，他看不懂樂譜，只憑著聽力就能彈奏一首首動聽的歌曲，他考取得7級的演唱證書，現場將自彈自唱。母親莊紫甜及哥哥謝康園也一同到場，簡述樂園走上音樂之路的點點滴滴。

　另外，來自台灣雲林縣折翼天使樂團的6位身心障礙孩子，他們苦練多年，利用殘餘的聽力，靠著琴和地板的震動練習，以堅強意志力克服障礙，用音樂技能演出大提琴、小提琴及電子琴。

　這批孩子，為了能一圓出國表演和考取街頭藝人執照的夢想，拼命努力練習，從完全沒有音樂基礎，到能登台演奏優美動聽的樂曲，需付出的努力，豈是一般常人所能理解？

　這次他們到來馬六甲，與謝樂園同場進行公益演出，也是讓民眾了解，雖然他們與常人不一樣，但也可以追尋夢想，為生命譜出優美的樂章。

I have for the first time attended a function involving the autism group held in the mini-theatre of Oriental Medical in Melaka and is overwhelmed by their musical performance. Less out anyone outside the doors of the theater, everyone is inspired by the performers and stories of their summarized journey of life invoked the thinking brain to wonder how they have dealt with their imperfections from the very beginning.


As the saxophonist tell his agony of the earlier days, I held my face up to contain my tears with the eyes bottom lids, afraid or maybe shy that the audience would notice my emotion of momentary sadness. Shattered but quickly collected, I feel strong again, knowing that he has broke the ‘wall’ and is on stage to deliver his work to his audience.


How are we going to see them as from now.


I am sure they would like us to see them in this window of life, “ It is OK to be different “


Parents for the autistic child were sad, have coped and have hopes for them. Let’s not break their hopes and we have to begin seeing them an okay person, by accepting them a okay person and by treating them a okay person.

My Hari Raya Aidilfitri has begin today, and on the eve of the Lebaran, I enjoy the fun of video recording the St. John Fort from 3:00 in the afternoon.

There is plenty of trees and monkey in this hill and we are not suppose to feed them as they are protected by the Wildlife Department.

The monkeys are harmless and they do not disturb, afternoon walkers from the base to the hilltop. 

From the fort, you can see clearly, Double Tree by Hilton Melaka and Hatten Place with the Straits of Melaka stretching of one end to the other.

Do not forget to visit this heritage site, when you are staying in nearby hotels.

Seize The Moment for Portuguese Settlement and Kingfisher

After busy whatsapping to my Malay friends on the last two nights of Lailatul Qadar, I lazily woke up to a morning of a mild steel blue-greys sky.

My wife was still sleeping soundly, when I scrapped an apple which I did almost every morning to munch before breakfast.

Since it was a holiday for the first day of Aidilfitri, I reviewed my social media platforms to identify for improvement because I like and has wanted to contribute to Melaka progress. I have this idea of making Melaka a better place since 1986 when I began work with Nationwide Express, a courier services company. 

Soon, I got married in 1988 and was pretty busy with my career until a first reunion of the old boys of Malacca High School in 2009. The latest, HSOB 73 - 77 Ramada Plaza. From the Mahkota Century Meet, arose a good compromising of time between career and leisure where friends requested for a platform to keep in touch. That is how I come to be a user of Blogger, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

Starting with a Samsung S3 as a hardware tool, slowly I have the Samsung S5, later the S6, a Sony Cyber Shot camera, a Sony 4K Handycam, a Huawei Mate 9 and lately a DJI Spark, spreading over the last 10 years. I have always knew that photography is an expensive hobby but an interesting hobby which goes with experience and patience.

It was a 'gift' when I was seizing some moments with my mini-drone, the DJI Spark within the Medan Selera MBMB courtyard where a row of Portuguese restaurants get busy before sunset to serve dinners.
