The Chetti community is one of the races found in Melaka which has many unique characteristics that cannot be found in other States of Malaysia.
They continue the heritage of their ancestors since immemorial which was originated from India.
Even though, they are not verbally fluent in Tamil because of the inter-marriage by the ancestor with the local community, they have made the Malay Language as their mother tongue until this day.

The community life is more similar to the Malay Community and the Baba Nyonya community in Melaka.
They have also taken their own initiative by sending their children to learn the Tamil language on their awareness of their original cultural heritage.
It is a fact that some of the Chetti in Melaka have become Singapore citizen following to the migration encouraged by the administrator of the British colonialism.
Nevertheless, they will return to the Chetti Village in Melaka particularly on celebration days such as Ponggol, Deepavali and Menggamay.
The existence of such environment has made the Chetti community unque and indirectly has added more unity among them to keep a good reputation for the Chetti in Melaka.
To preserve the culture of the Chetti community, the Melaka State Government in cooperation with the Perbadanan Muzium Melaka, has established the CHETTI MUSEUM.
